Lymphatic Drainage Massage
The lymphatic system serves as a complex network of organs, vessels, and tissues working in harmony to transport a colorless, watery fluid known as lymph back into your circulatory system, or bloodstream. Integral to your immune system, the lymphatic system safeguards against infections and eliminates unnecessary old or abnormal cells from the body. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in regulating normal fluid levels and facilitating the absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins into the bloodstream.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage (LDM) employs a gentle, slow touch that lightly stretches the skin, fostering a deeply relaxing experience. This technique, characterized by its repetitive motions, not only promotes relaxation but also aids in the movement of fluids throughout the body, enhancing lymphatic flow. Given that the lymphatic system is a vital component of the body's immune system, effective lymph movement supports the detoxification of the entire body.
At Mulberry Wellness, we offer Lymphatic Drainage Massage performed by Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) utilizing three distinct approaches, detailed below. Please ensure that you select the appropriate treatment based on your individual needs and health objectives.

Medical Lymphatic Drainage
At Mulberry Wellness, we specialize in a medical lymphatic drainage approach known as Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT). This comprehensive treatment combines Lymphatic Drainage Massage with remedial exercise therapy, compression bandaging (or maintenance phase compression garments), and therapeutic skin care.
Medical Lymphatic Drainage is designed to cleanse the connective tissue of inflammatory materials and toxins, boost immune system activity, reduce pain, and improve the functioning of the parasympathetic nervous system. This approach facilitates the healing process for injuries, chronic conditions, inflammations, and edemas.
Regular Medical Lymphatic Drainage treatments help restore tissue balance, often preventing the recurrence of symptoms. The treatment typically begins and ends with focus on the neck and the area of concern (where swelling and congestion are most prevalent). Depending on the patient's condition or comfort level, the treatment can be conducted with the patient lying on their back, side, or stomach.
The gentle nature of this technique makes it suitable for immediate post-surgery treatment. In fact, receiving treatment right after surgery can expedite healing time and reduce discomfort.

Whole Body Detoxification
A perfect introduction to Lymphatic Drainage Massage for individuals who are looking to try this treatment approach for the first time. This treatment moves fluid throughout the body moving toxins to the liver and kidneys where they can be filtered out. Mobilizing the immune system and increasing general health and wellbeing.
Also ideal for individuals who have generalized mild swelling and/or swelling due to pregnancy.
The treatment starts with a full body dry brush and then lymphatic techniques to the neck, armpits, abdomen and legs.
We use a grapefruit essential oil infused lotion which is known to have stimulating diuretic properties which can help the body rid itself of lymphatic waste. Grapefruit is renowned for its ability to invigorate, energize, and enhance mood and focus.
As grapefruit may interact with certain medication, an unscented lotion can be used as an alternativeCondition(s) Treated in this Service

General Wellness
Ideal for individuals already familiar with Lymphatic Drainage, seeking targeted focus on specific areas of concern (face, arms, legs, abdomen) rather than a full-body detox; making it perfect for those without specific medical needs. This treatment moves fluid throughout the body moving toxins to the liver and kidneys where they can be filtered out. Mobilizing the immune system and increasing general health and wellbeing.
Ideal for individuals without specific medical needs , who are experiencing localized mild swelling in areas such as the face, arms, legs, or abdomen.
The treatment starts and ends with neck lymphatic drainage techniques while concentrating on 1 or 2 other areas of focus. Generally this treatment avoids lotions, but may use a small amount for skin resistance if needed.A dry brush and grapefruit essential oils are not a modality of this treatment.

We carry and order through reputable brands including Juzo, Sigvaris, and Baeurfeind.
Here are some of the benefits of Compression socks and stockingsImproved Circulation: Compression garments apply gentle pressure to the legs, helping to improve blood circulation. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who sit or stand for long periods, as it reduces the risk of blood pooling in the lower extremities.
Reduced Swelling: By assisting the movement of fluids, compression stockings can reduce swelling, especially in the ankles and feet. This is beneficial for those with conditions like edema or venous insufficiency.
Prevention of Varicose Veins: Compression garments help to support the veins and improve their function, reducing the likelihood of developing varicose veins or worsening existing ones.
Decreased Fatigue: Wearing compression stockings can alleviate leg fatigue and heaviness, making it easier to stay on your feet for longer periods without discomfort.
Muscle Support: Compression socks provide gentle support to the muscles, reducing muscle vibration during movement. This can aid in muscle efficiency and reduce muscle soreness after activities.
Improved Athletic Performance and Recovery: Athletes often wear compression socks during workouts or competitions to improve performance and reduce muscle fatigue. They can also help with post-exercise recovery by promoting circulation and reducing swelling.
Prevention of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT): Compression stockings are commonly used in medical settings to prevent DVT, especially during long flights or after surgery when mobility is limited.
Comfort and Warmth: Compression stockings provide a snug fit that can offer comfort and warmth, especially in colder climates or during winter months.
It's important to note that the benefits of compression garments and stockings can vary based on the individual's condition and needs. Consulting with a healthcare professional can help determine the most suitable compression level and type for specific requirements.
