Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a primary health care system that combines the knowledge of natural and traditional healing methods with modern medicine. Naturopathic Doctors (ND’s) work with the body to alleviate symptoms while identifying the root cause of a patient’s health concern. ND's take a whole-body approach that considers all organ systems and how they work together to bring patients back into balance to achieve optimal health. Treatment of any imbalances may involve a combination of the following modalities using an individualized approach:

  • Herbal medicine

  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based acupuncture

  • Supplements such as vitamins and minerals

  • Lifestyle modifications

  • Clinical nutrition

  • Homeopathy

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see a Naturopathic Doctor while I am going to a fertility clinic?

Yes, ND’s can provide complementary care during fertility treatments by using supplements and acupuncture to improve the efficacy of IUI/IVF. Many patients find that seeing an ND during fertility treatments can also reduce stress and anxiety that has arisen due to the overwhelming nature of IUI/IVF cycles or the fertility journey itself.

Can Naturopathic Doctors run blood tests?

Yes, ND’s can run standard blood tests. Specialty testing such as food sensitivity testing, gut microbiome, SIBO and adrenal panels are other common tests that can also be run.

What is TCM based acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which originated in China over 5, 000 years ago. The teachings of TCM acupuncture identify 12 meridians along the body that correspond to particular organ systems. When the flow of energy along a meridian is interrupted disease or symptoms begin. Treatment involves placing small needles at specified points along the meridian where energy has been disrupted. When the body is in balance, the flow of energy along the meridians is restored. The wisdom of TCM continues to be researched and has been documented to be particularly beneficial for fertility, regulating periods and stress reduction.

Is naturopathic medicine covered under my extended health insurance plan?

Most insurance companies provide ND coverage, check with your provider to determine your eligibility. At Mulberry Wellness we offer direct billing to most insurance companies.

How often do I visit a Naturopathic Doctor?

This depends on the health concern but generally, patients will come in for an initial visit and follow up every 4-6 weeks thereafter, tapering off to yearly for health maintenance once goals are achieved. If acupuncture is the treatment modality that is being used, treatments are typically weekly in the beginning and the duration of this depends on how longstanding the health concern is.
